The LS-10 will allow you to record your voice in high quality, but I would suggest spending your money on a good quality mic and sound card unless you specifically need a portable recording device.

The recording quality of the LS-10 will be MUCH better than the DS-40 which only records to compressed files, and has a limited frequency response. The best way to record two things (like piano and voice) is to use a dedicated mic for each, but the LS-10 will give a high quality result.

I’m just curious if there might be a way for me to somehow hook up my phantom powered Sennheiser K6/ME66 shotgun mic to it. Granted, I know there is no phantom/XLR on the LS-10, but maybe it’s possible to get it working anyway. The shotgun mic has a 1.6V AA battery socket, so I figure I might only need to find some kind of converter cable (if they exist). (Thinking loud.)

The files are just numbered, but it’s really easy to see the time and date. There’s an info feature, which I have assigned to the function button (Fn on the left) so I just press Fn and it shows time, date etc. of the file.

I’m curious about the file naming. Sure, if I can’t edit file names onboard, that’s really not a problem, as I always thought that is more of a hassle than it is usual, on almost any kind of similar device.
But. Something that I’d really appreciate, would be if it named the files according to actual recording date & time. My Edirol R-4 did that, and thus I never had to rename the files in the computer, since all files were given their exact own, unique names with YY-MM-DD_HH-MM-SS format.

and sold my Edirol R-09.
I should have done more comparison on what it
could do. Sure, the LS-10 looks pretty, but
the quality of the recording does not come
close to the R-09. Also, can’t even chg the
name of a file on the LS-10 w/o first connecting to a PC.
The speaker is way too
quiet. Even my cheapie Olympus voice is at
least as loud or louder.
